Brace Yourselves

1 John 2:18-19 (NKJV) Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.

We are warned over and over in scripture about a time in our future when the people of faith will face great challenges. In 1 John, we are again warned of a future that may be harder than we might imagine. Generally, when the Word is speaking of these future days, It refers to the time as the“last hour.” I happen to believe the last hour to be a time just before the return of Jesus. John wants us to know of an appointed time when people who oppose the TRUTH of the gospel of Jesus Christ will war against that truth. This particular scripture isn’t speaking of “THE” Antichrist that we read about in Revelation; this particular scripture is referring to people who are opposing the truth. They are called antichrists simply because they are“anti” Christ.

The important part for us to remember is that when that day comes, we need to be prepared. How can we be prepared? I think we can be prepared by first knowing what we believe about Jesus and His Word. We need to be a people who don’t just talk a good game concerning our faith, but people who are actively and completely committed to our faith. We need to be a people who are holding firm to our commitment and who are not easily swayed in the face of dire attacks. We cannot simply just be a group of apathetic or nominal believers. We simply have to be a people who have surrendered all we are to the cause of Jesus Christ. When that time comes, and it will, we must be people who refuse to back down or compromise. Brace yourselves, hold firm to the truth, and He will most definitely see us through the fire.
