2 Corinthians 5:18 (NKJV) Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,
The very point of the gospel is reconciliation. It’s His story and has become our story. Jesus Christ came to earth to accomplish one thing and one thing only; to reconcile us to the Father. We were a broken mess and we had no hope. We were not only broken, but we were lost. We were lost without a map. We literally had no way of even making it to the Father. Knowing our lost state, Jesus Christ chose to come to earth and accomplish for us what we could never accomplish on our own. He lived perfectly and gave His life on a cross that should have been mine. His willingness to die for us, He made a way for us to be reconciled to the Father. He gave us forgiveness, grace, mercy, and eternal life. He reconciled us to the Father!
Since Jesus came and made us part of His plan of reconciliation were now charged with the “ministry of reconciliation.” This is what Paul means in 2 Corinthians 5:18. He is saying that since we have received the gift of reconciliation that we are now charged with the responsibility of the ministry of reconciliation. I would offer that it isn’t just a facet of the gospel, but that it is the gospel. Since that is true, we must now take on this ministry with great fervor. May we walk it out daily. May we be who the Father created us to be. May we do the thing He has called us to do and may we do it intentionally!
